Kashmir teacher selected for prestigious Fulbright programme

Tajamul Naseem Lone, a higher secondary school teacher from Baramulla, North Kashmir, has been selected for the Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Programme (2024-2025) in the United States.

Lone, who hails from Dangiwacha in Rafiabad, will participate in a six-week professional learning experience at a U.S. university, where international educators explore teaching methodologies, student-centered learning, and instructional technology.

Coming from a modest background, Lone credits his success to the support from Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Dangiwacha and mentorship from Fulbright alumnus Rameez Sudan.

The 38-year-old is the only participant from Kashmir this year and one of just seven from India selected for this prestigious program, which emphasizes global educational exchange.

Lone has a diverse academic and professional background. He pursued a Bachelor of Science at the University of Kashmir before completing a Master’s in Zoology from Barkatullah University, Bhopal.

He later earned an M.Phil from Bundelkhand University, a Bachelor of Education degree from Kashmir University, and is currently working toward a Master’s in Environmental Science. His career in education spans nine years, including time as an ALOHA administrator and course instructor.

Chosen from over 3,200 international applicants across 65 countries, Lone’s selection highlights his dedication to teaching and his commitment to fostering educational excellence.

The program will offer academic seminars, field experience with a U.S. partner educator, and focus on issues like gender in education, media literacy, and environmental education.

“We are thrilled to congratulate Tajamul Naseem Lone on this well-deserved recognition,” said Jennifer Gibson, Branch Chief of the Teacher Exchange Branch. “This award embodies the Fulbright Program’s mission to promote mutual understanding and global education.”

Lone’s achievement follows in the footsteps of Shaista Shakeel, another government educator from Baramulla, who was selected for the same program in 2023.
