The Kashmir Trade Alliance (KTA) has urged the Lieutenant Governor’s administration to install a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Scan machine at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital in Srinagar.
This request aims to enhance healthcare accessibility for cancer patients in the region.
KTA President Aijaz Shahdhar acknowledged the recent installation of a PET Scan facility at Government Medical College (GMC) in Jammu but stressed the need for a similar facility in Srinagar, particularly at SMHS Hospital.
Shahdhar noted that despite significant improvements in the health sector under Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s administration, the lack of a PET Scan at SMHS Hospital is forcing many cancer patients to seek this critical diagnostic test at private facilities, leading to high costs.
“It would greatly benefit the community and improve healthcare services if a PET Scan facility were established at SMHS Hospital,” Shahdhar stated.
He further explained that PET Scans are essential for detecting cancer, heart conditions, brain disorders, and other diseases.
The KTA has directly appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to consider their request and issue directives for the installation of the PET Scan facility at SMHS Hospital.
They emphasized that providing this diagnostic capability at the premier government hospital would significantly ease the burden on cancer patients and other critically ill individuals in the Kashmir region.
