The former chief Minister of Jammu Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday filed her nomination papers for the Anantnag Lok Sabha seat comprising of four South Kashmir districts, Pulwama, Islamabad (Anantnag), Shopian and Kulgam.
Speaking to media men here, Mehbooba said that she is contesting the elections to stop the bloodshed in Kashmir valley. “I will try to fulfill the dreams of my late father who dreamed to resolve the issue of Jammu Kashmir,” Mehbooba Mufti said.
In response to the Bhartiya Janta Party Amit Shah’s statement that article 35A and 370 will be removed in 2020, she said that if it is done that in 2020 Kashmir will be a free and a separate country. “Kashmir will end its relation with India if Article 370 is removed in 2020, that will be the final year of Kashmir with India.”
Earlier Farooq Abdullah, the president of National Conference had said that if Article 35 A and Article 370 is temporary, so is Kashmir’s accession to India, while Omar Abdullah had said that the party will work to reinstate a separate Prime Minister and Sadr e Riyasat for Jammu Kashmir.
India goes to polls in seven phases, starting 11 April with the counting scheduled for 23 May.
Islamabad (Anantnag) District will go to polls on April 23, under the third phase, Kulgam will vote during the 4th phase, on April 29. The elections for the twin districts of Pulwama and Shopian will be held under 5th phase, on May 6.
