Kashmir’s renowned poet, writer, and literary scholar Dr. Aziz Hajni breathed his last, late Saturday evening after prolonged illness.

Born Abdul Aziz Parray, known as Dr. Aziz Hajini, he was a Kashmiri writer, poet, critic, and former secretary of Jammu Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages hailing from Hajin of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Hajni was a staunch advocate of Kashmiri language and played a pivotal role in including Kashmiri language as a subject in the school curriculum of Kashmir region, till he retired from active service in 2019.
Dr. Hajini was the first Gold Medalist in Kashmiri language from the University of Kashmir and held several memberships over the years.
He started his literary carrier from a literary organization Halqa-Adab Hajin, Sonawari. He completed his Ph.D. on Development of Kashmiri Prose during the 20th century.
He had served various positions in academic and literary circles including the post of the Deputy Director Academic, Kashmir division; Research Officer State Institute Of Education, Srinagar; OSD Cultural Education, Department of School Education Government of Jammu Kashmir; Coordinator Sheikh-Ul-Alam Chair, Center for Sheikh-Ul-Alam.
Besides writing various books in Kashmiri language, Hajni also served as the President Kashmir Theatre Association from 1998 to 2000.
Dr. Hajini was the Editor of the Alamdaar – the English and Kashmiri language yearly journal of Center for Sheikh-Ul-Aalam Studies, Kashmir University; Editor, Noor, the News Letter of Center for Shiekh-Ul-Aalam Studies, Kashmir University and Patron and Editor of Prav, yearly Journal of Adbi Markaz Kamraz.
