Kashmiri activists reach Delhi, demand restoration of political rights

Leaders of the Jammu Kashmir Awami Tehreek (JKAT) staged a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi and demanded the closure of newly opened wine shops and fast trials for detained journalists.

The protesters led by the president of JKAT, Waqar  Bhatti urged the government to make a strict policy against drug peddling.

A statement issued to The Kashmiriyat said that Waqar H Bhatti demanded a fair and fast trials for journalists and other political prisoners who are languishing in jails. They also urged the government to shift all PSA detainees to Jammu Kashmir.

“The religious clerics including Moulana Dawoodi, Mushtaq Veeri and other shall be released because they have committed no crime. We urge the JK admin to release the clerics immediately,” he said.

JKAT was joined by various activists from New Delhi and other states of India during their sit in at Jantar Mantar, who also demanded the restoration of democratic rights in Jammu Kashmir.

Spokesperson JKAT Angad Singh Khalsa said we are sitting on one day protest on Jantar Mantar. “We demand ban on all newly opened Alcohol shops in J&K, urgent strict effective policies should be shaped to deal with growing drug addiction cases in J&K,” he said.

“Fair and fast trial of all political prisoners, Journalists and others who are under Incarnation in various jails of the country should be conducted,” he said.

Others who joined the protest included Om Prakash Shah, Adv Irfan Hafeez Lone, ANC senior leader Muzaffar Shah, Nadeem Shafi, Gazi Omer.
