Kashmiri Muslim clerics condemn Pahalgam attack, call it 'inhuman and unacceptable'

Kashmiri religious figures have strongly condemned the recent attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Anantnag district, calling the violence “inhuman” and “completely unacceptable.” The assault, which reportedly left several tourists feared dead and dozens injured, has sent shockwaves across the region, prompting urgent appeals for peace and introspection.

Prominent religious leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq denounced the attack, calling it a stark contradiction to Kashmir’s centuries-old tradition of hospitality.

“Kashmir has always embraced visitors with love and warmth, and such brutality has no place here,” the Mirwaiz said in a statement. “This kind of violence not only defames our land but also deeply wounds the spirit of our people.”

Echoing similar sentiments, renowned Shia cleric Aga Syed Mohammad Hadi took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his outrage. “The attack on tourists in Pahalgam today is an inhuman act that has no place in our religion or Kashmir. No matter how much we condemn this barbarity, it is insufficient,” he wrote.

Aga Hadi further criticized what he described as the “dual standards of the establishment,” adding that the attack had exposed the hollow claims about Kashmir’s post-August 5th security narrative. “This incident has also exposed the tall claims of those who are making noise in the world about Kashmir becoming peaceful and secure after August 5th,” he stated.

Mufti Nasir ul Islam, while deploring the attack as highly condemnable, said, “I strongly condemn the brutal attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in the loss of innocent lives and injured many others.” “Such acts of terror and violence are unacceptable and have no place in our society.” “My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and those affected by this tragedy,” Islam said.
