Prominent Shia cleric Aga Syed Mohammad Hadi has issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s recent airstrikes on Tehran, calling the attack a “blatant act of aggression” and a “violation of international law.”
The strikes, which targeted Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure early Friday morning, resulted in multiple casualties, including senior officials, and have heightened fears of a broader conflict in the Middle East.
In his statement, Aga Hadi expressed full solidarity with the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing the attack as a calculated effort to destabilize the region and undermine diplomatic efforts around Iran’s nuclear program.
“This assault on Tehran is an attack on sovereignty and peace. Muslim states must support Iran diplomatically, politically, and morally,” he said, warning that the killing of key figures like Hossein Salami and nuclear scientists amounted to “a dangerous provocation that risks plunging the region into chaos.”
The cleric also urged the international community to hold Israel accountable for what he called “heinous crimes” and called for urgent dialogue to resolve what he termed the “mother of all conflicts — the Palestine issue.”
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Aga Hadi wrote: “No amount of condemnation is enough for the attack by the criminal, bloodthirsty, and brutal Zionist regime on the Islamic Republic of Iran. This is a blatant violation of international laws. Iran, which has always stood in support of the oppressed Palestinians, is now being punished for its voice.”
He added that the “Muslim Ummah must unite, rise, and confront this common enemy before this impure and wicked entity seizes their lands as well.” Warning of grave consequences, he said, “If the nations of the world remain silent even now, there is a grave danger that global peace will be utterly destroyed.”
The outrage has not been confined to Shia voices alone. Several Sunni scholars have also publicly condemned the Israeli strikes on their social media accounts, underscoring a rare moment of unity among Muslim clerics.
Muzammil Husain, a prominent Sunni preacher, wrote on Facebook “This is not just an attack on Iran, it’s an attack on humanity — violating all laws of land and the UN. Israel must be punished collectively by the world.”
From south Kashmir’s Shopian district, Mufti Tariq also spoke out “Iran is the only nation that supported the people of Palestine. Now it’s our time to support Iran — not just as a nation, but as a symbol of resistance against occupation and oppression.”
Zahid Hussain, a cleric from Qazigund, rejected any sectarian framing of the conflict, saying, “It is not a fight for Shia or Sunni. The fight is between the truth and falsehood. The fight is between oppression and justice. The lines are not blurred anymore.”
“We must all stand with the people of Iran against a state which muzzles rights and shows no respect for human life,” he added.
Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also condemned Israel’s attack on Iran, calling the Jewish state a “rogue state and a huge threat to world peace.”
“Another distressing news that came this morning is the bombing of Iran by Israel, in which many civilians, including women and children, have been killed. Besides, senior Iranian military personnel have also been assassinated. This is highly condemnable,” Mirwaiz said while addressing the Friday congregation at Srinagar’s historic Jamia Masjid.
He added that Israel, while “perpetuating genocide on hapless Palestinians and getting away with it,” is now “putting the whole of Middle East in peril.”
The clerics’ unified voices from both sects signal deepening anger and frustration over continued Israeli military operations in the region.
Their statements are part of growing regional calls for a diplomatic offensive against Israel and for Muslim nations to set aside internal differences in confronting what many see as a shared existential threat.
