Kashmiri youth arrested in Bihar found involved in ‘Anti-national’ activities, says Police

A Kashmiri youth who was arrested by Bihar Police in Katihar for “suspicious activity” is allegedly involved in anti-national activities.

Family sources told The Kashmiriyat that Nasir Yousuf Waza, a resident of Budgam district in central Kashmir was arrested on Wednesday by Police when he was returning from Nepal.

They said that Nasir is married to a woman from Finland and stays there with his wife and a two young children. “He had come to Kashmir in 2021 due to his passport expiry after which he was constantly trying to get the issue resolved, however, it was not,” they said.

He had recently gone to Nepal. Upon his return he was picked up by Police in Bihar when he was on the way to West Bengal to meet his friends in Kolkata, the family source said, adding, “The family members are leaving for Bihar to meet the Police officials tomorrow,” he said.

According to Police, Nasir Yousuf Waza was arrested for “suspicious activity” near Shaheed Chowk in Bihar’s Katihar area. They said that Nasir was interrogated by teams of NIA, IB and ATS. During the course of investigation it was found that Nasir runs a YouTube channel, in which videos of many inflammatory speeches have been uploaded. The Police, however, did not disclose the name of his YouTube channel.

Officials said many “suspicious videos and mobile numbers” have been found in Nasir’s phone. “Some of these mobile numbers are from Pakistan, Finland. The security agency is also probing Nasir’s Pakistan links. The numbers found in his mobile are being traced,” they said.

They said that Nasir had initially said that he was from Finland and spoke in English only. However, when the police questioned him, he started talking in Hindi as well and started calling himself an Indian citizen.

According to the family source who spoke to The Kashmiriyat, Nasir had reached Katihar by train on Wednesday night and wanted to go to Kolkata on the same night. “Since there was no train to Kolkata at night, he decided to stay in Katihar for the night. He was looking for a hotel in Katihar, but could not find a room in any hotel,” he said.

The Police took him into custody when he was roaming in a suspicious state.

Katihar SP Jitendra Kumar said that Nasir, a resident of Jammu Kashmir, has been found involved in anti-national activities. “Many evidences have been seized from his mobile,” he said.

Pertinently, Nasir father Mohammed Yousuf Waza was was killed by the Government forces during an encounter in 1993.

The security agencies are trying to find out the purpose of Nasir’s visit to Katihar, his contacts and whom he met.
