Kashmir’s was always a part of India, the bond is unbreakable: HM Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during the launch of the book ‘J&K and Ladakh Through the Ages’ on January 2, 2025, said that Kashmir has been named after the ancient sage Kashyap.

As per a report by News9, Shah highlighted the cultural and historical significance of Kashmir, mentioning its association with the Silk Route, Shankaracharya Temple, and Hemis Monastery.

He remarked that Kashmir laid the foundation for Indian culture, with its flourishing Sufi, Buddhist, and rock monasteries. However, this proposal has ignited political debates across the country.

Amit Shah emphasized the government’s commitment to preserving the region’s linguistic diversity, mentioning the recognition of Kashmiri, Dogri, Balti, and Jhanskari languages. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts in ensuring the survival of even the smallest languages of Kashmir post the region’s reorganization into a Union Territory.

On Article 370, Shah reiterated that it was a temporary provision that hindered the country’s unity.

He claimed its abrogation opened pathways for development in Kashmir and significantly reduced terrorism in the valley. According to Shah, the removal of Article 370 addressed the separatist sentiment among Kashmiri youth, strengthening Kashmir’s integration with India.

He further asserted Kashmir’s inseparable bond with India, citing the temples, Sanskrit traditions, and historical references mentioned in the newly launched book.

Shah also criticized the mistakes made in the past regarding Kashmir and praised the Modi government’s reforms in the region.
