Security forces have recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including a US-made M4 rifle, two AK rifles, a pistol, magazines, ammunition, and medicines with Pakistani markings, following a deadly encounter in the Chhatru area of Kishtwar district, officials said on Saturday.
The ongoing operation, launched earlier this week, has so far led to the killing of three militants—two of whom are believed to be Pakistani nationals.
“In the ongoing counter-militancy operation at Chhatru, despite harsh weather and difficult terrain, security forces have successfully neutralised three terrorists,” a senior Army officer said. “The recovery of an M4 rifle and Pakistan-marked medicines is a clear indication of cross-border involvement.”
Officials added that surveillance and combing operations have been intensified in the region, particularly across the hilly terrains of Kishtwar and neighbouring Doda, to prevent further infiltration or movement.
The Army also confirmed that one Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was killed while foiling an infiltration attempt along the LoC in the Akhnoor sector in a separate incident.
Operations in Kishtwar are ongoing as forces continue to monitor the area for any remaining threats.
