Kulgam bypass on NH-444 to be completed by February 2026, says official

The construction of the NH-444 Kulgam bypass from Pahloo to Lirow is set to be completed by February 28, 2026.

The ambitious 75-crore project is being executed by Bhat and Lone Builders Construction Company and will stretch over a distance of 8.7 kilometers.

An official said, the new bypass road will offer a direct and smoother route, connecting Qazigund to Srinagar while bypassing the congested Kulgam town. A key highlight of the project is the construction of a new Brazloo Bridge measuring 378 meters in length.

“The completion of the new bridge will ease the daily commute, especially for residents of district Kulgam, who currently face severe traffic congestion on the existing Brazloo Bridge,” said an official.

“The current bridge’s life span is nearly over, making this new structure crucial for uninterrupted travel and safety.”

Apart from improving road connectivity, the project is also generate employment for the local population during its execution phase, the official added.

Once completed, the bypass will serve as a vital infrastructure upgrade for Kulgam district, improving transportation efficiency and boosting the local economy, he added
