Kulgam Locals Continue Demanding Removal of Army Camp- Intense Clashes Erupt

People including women on Monday morning hit the streets of Redwani locality in Quimoh belt of South Kashmir’s Kulgam amid pro Independence slogans demanding the removal of Army camp recently established in the locality.

Locals told The Kashmiriyat that scores of men and women on Monday morning came out on the streets shouting pro independence and Anti India slogans to demand the removal of an Army camp of 1 RR of Indian Army recently set up in Redwani Bala.

However the Police soon reached the spot and fired tear smoke shells on the protesting civilians, which resulted in intense clashes as youth gathered in large numbers and threw stones on the troopers deployed in the area.

Locals said that an eight year old boy was hit with pellets in his abdominal area and he has been taken to the hospital for treatment.

Locals have been demanding that the Army camp should be removed as it has intimidated the entire population of the area, the area also shut down for eleven consecutive days to demand the removal of Army camp.

The Army on earlier this month set up another camp in the volatile Quimoh locality of South Kashmir’s Kulgam District, Locals informed The Kashmiriyat.

They said that 1 Rashtriya Rifles of the Indian Army has set up a new camp besides the Martyrs graveyard in the Redwani Bala locality of Quimoh in South Kashmir’s Kulgam District. Redwani Bala pertinently is a densely populated area of the Kulgam District.

Qazi Ahmed Yasir, who demanded the removal of Army camp and issued a call for Redwani chalo was immediately arrested and booked under Public safety act.

Meanwhile the area is observing complete shutdown to demand the removal of the Army camp.
