Local Muslims in large numbers on Tuesday attended and arranged for the last rites of a deceased Hindu woman who passed away at her native in the Kulgam district of South Kashmir.
Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, a local resident said that Lajwanti Devi aged 80 passed away after prolonged illness at the Begam area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
As the news spread through the Begam locality of Kulgam, locals in large numbers thronged the house to express solidarity with the bereaved family.
“The Local Muslims had arranged for the last rites. They arranged firewood, water and other essentials for the last rites of Lajwanti Devi,” a relative of the deceased woman said.
Kashmir has always been an example of communal harmony and locals Muslims have always been supportive of the centuries-long tradition of communal brotherhood, he told The Kashmiriyat.
