Kulgam residents protest against water scarcity

The residents of (Partapora Gujjar Basti) Chowgam in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday staged a protest against the water scarcity in the area.

The protesters mostly women have blocked the road for hours together and blocked the traffic movement to press for their demands.

The aggrieved residents said they are not getting drinking water regularly causing huge problems to them.

A protester told The Kashmiriyat that they are not being provided safe drinking water regularly which is giving them a tough time adding, “We have brought the matter to the concerned department several times, but no attention is being paid towards our genuine demands which forced us to hit streets.”

The women of the locality have to walk miles to fetch drinking water from the river. The taps are dry for many days now and the department is not taking any measures to get resolve the issue.

The locals have said that we are being forced to come on the roads to protest against the department to press our demands.

Meanwhile, AEE Jal Shakti (PHE) Qazigund Mohammed Rafiq, said that the water tanker got some technical snag due to which they were not able to supply the water in the area.

“We are working on it and water supply will be restored as soon as possible,” he told The Kashmiriyat.
