In a major decision, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo have approved the long-pending stipend file for Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) interning in the region.
This landmark decision, hailed as a breakthrough, brings an end to years of struggle and advocacy by FMGs and their supporters, marking a new chapter in the region’s healthcare sector
The approval follows years of relentless efforts by FMGs to secure fair stipends for their work in the healthcare system, a foreign medical intern told The Kashmiriyat.
“The Kashmiriyat was instrumental in initially carrying the issue to the forefront. When nobody spoke or acknowledged our issue, it was The Kashmiriyat, who engaged with various officials, highlighting our grievances and pushing for a resolution,” he recalled.
The FMGs have long faced challenges in receiving fair compensation for their crucial work in the region’s healthcare system.
Despite these obstacles, the students had remained steadfast in their pursuit of justice, and their hard work has now culminated in this significant achievement.
The approval of the stipend marks a pivotal moment for the FMGs and the broader healthcare community in Jammu Kashmir, the students said.
It reflects the collective strength and resilience of countless students, doctors, and supporters who have fought tirelessly for years.
“This decision not only provides financial relief to FMGs but also strengthens the foundation of the healthcare system in the region, ensuring fair treatment for those committed to serving the community,” the students told The Kashmiriyat.
The FMGs extend their heartfelt gratitude to all those who played a role in making this milestone possible, including officials, media outlets, and fellow organizations.
They also acknowledge the significant contribution of the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Students’ Association (JandKMedicalAss) and the All FMG Association (AFA) for spreading awareness and garnering support through their social media platforms.
