LG Sinha announces rebuilding of 5,000 houses in Jammu Kashmir after floods

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday announced that over 5,000 houses will be rebuilt in the region following the recent devastating floods, reaffirming the administration’s focus on restoring normalcy and supporting affected families.

Sinha urged strict action against encroachments along rivers and water bodies, emphasizing that both citizens and authorities must collaborate to prevent disasters caused by illegal constructions.

Describing the recent floods in Jammu as a major catastrophe, Sinha noted that over 4,000 houses were damaged, more than 3,237 km of roads affected, and over 70 major bridges destroyed. Speaking at the ‘Swachhata Vijayotsav’ under ‘Sewa Parv’, he highlighted that temporary relief from encroachments comes at the cost of lives during flood situations. He called on officials to remain vigilant and encouraged citizens to report violations to build a safer and sustainable environment.

Outlining relief measures, Sinha said the central government has approved construction of 5,000+ houses under the Rural Development Department, with an organization from Kerala building 1,500 additional houses.

He also highlighted ongoing cleanliness drives, rural development projects, and environmental protection campaigns, including the laying of cornerstones for GOBARdhan Biogas Plants and Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants under SBM(G), aimed at ensuring long-term public welfare and prosperity in J-K.
