Locals from North Kashmir’s Kupwara district staged a protest alleging that they caught a non-local vendor and recovered a minor girl from him while he was trying to abduct her.
The protesters who staged a protest at Dragmulla Kupwara said that a non-local vendor on the pretext of selling bed sheets entered into the house of one Muhammad Shafi Lone located at Marble Colony Dragmulla.
According to family members and the protesters, the alleged vendor found Arifa Jan (3) alone in the yard and abducted her. “The screams of the girl attracted the attention of the people who caught hold of him and recovered the girl,” they said.
Witnesses said that before handing over the alleged accused to police, the locals thrashed him and he revealed that he is part of the group comprising four members.
SSP Kupwara Dinakar Ambarkar told that the accused hails from Lakanpur Punjab. He said police is verifying his anecdotes. “During questioning, the accused said he had lost the way inadvertently entered the house,” he said and refuted the claims that any gang is active in the area.
