The inhabitants of the Tachloo area in Shamsipora of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district have alleged that the ongoing construction work in the village is in the hands of non-locals. Although, MGNAREGA is meant to strengthen the rural areas and to provide employment opportunities to the local community.
Locals told The Kashmiriyat that time and again they’ve Registered their queries to the concerned BDO office but unfortunately, any concrete step hasn’t been taken yet.
They alleged that construction of a riverbank under the MGNARGA scheme of the Government which is going on for the past nearly fifteen days is being carried out by non-Locals.
When The Kashmiriyat contacted the concerned BDO, he assured that the work will be stopped with immediate effects and the issue will be resolved but soon after his assurances, nothing happened as the construction was going on.
The act was first proposed in 1991 by P.V. Narasimha Rao. It was finally accepted in the parliament and commenced implementation in 625 districts of India. Based on this pilot experience, NREGA was scoped up to cover all the districts of India from April 1, 2008.

It is pertinent to mention that The MGNREGA was initiated with the objective of “enhancing livelihood security in rural areas by providing at least 100 days of guaranteed wage employment in a financial year, to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work”. MGNREGA is to be implemented mainly by gram panchayats (GPs).
