The price of domestic LPG cylinders has been hiked by ₹50 across all user categories, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced today. The revised rates apply to both general and subsidized users, including beneficiaries of the government’s Ujjwala Yojana scheme.
In Delhi, Ujjwala consumers will now pay ₹553 for a 14.2-kg cylinder, up from ₹503. For general users, the price has been increased to ₹853. LPG prices vary across states depending on local taxes.
This marks the first price revision in over a year. The last change occurred in March 2024, when the government reduced domestic cylinder prices by ₹100.
In contrast, prices for commercial LPG cylinders were reduced by ₹41 last week, offering some relief to hotels, restaurants, and other businesses that rely on them for daily operations.
Meanwhile, the government has also increased the excise duty on fuel: ₹13 per litre on petrol and ₹10 on diesel. However, officials clarified that this hike will not impact retail fuel prices. The added duty, effective from April 8, will be absorbed by oil marketing companies, offset by falling international crude prices.
