Major air scare: IndiGo flight from Kolkata to Srinagar forced to land amid fuel leak warning

An IndiGo flight travelling from Kolkata to Srinagar made an emergency landing at Varanasi Airport on Wednesday evening after a suspected fuel leak was detected mid-air.

The flight, numbered 6E-551, was carrying 166 passengers at the time of the incident, as per Hindustan Live.

According to initial reports, the crew noticed signs of a possible fuel leak shortly after take-off and immediately alerted *Varanasi Air Traffic Control (ATC).

After receiving clearance, the pilot carried out an emergency landing following standard safety procedures.

Eyewitnesses at the airport said panic spread among passengers when the aircraft began its descent earlier than scheduled, but the crew managed the situation calmly. “Everyone was terrified for a few minutes, but the landing was smooth. The staff kept reassuring us,” said one passenger.

Following the landing, all passengers were safely evacuated, and the aircraft was parked on the apron area for inspection. Maintenance teams and safety officials conducted a detailed check, which lasted over two hours.

IndiGo officials confirmed that all passengers were safe and alternate arrangements were being made for their onward journey.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the leak.
