Hundreds of trees were burnt in a major fire that broke out in the woods in Mawer forests of Kupwara district in north Kashmir.
Officials told The Kashmiriyat that large number of forest officials are struggling to douse off the fire which has spread to several compartments of the forest area during the past few days.
Locals speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that despite the locals working round the clock to bring the fire under control, the fire is spreading swiftly to other compartments.
The Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of the Langate area in Kupwara upon being contacted said that the fire incident occurred when fallen trees had caught fire which spread to other compartments.
