Civilian injured in ‘cross firing’ Amid ‘chance encounter in Shopian: Police

A civilian was in injured in crossing firing amid a ‘chance’ encounter between militants and a joint team of police and security forces in Turkwagam South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday.

Clarifying it, a top police officer told GNS that there was an encounter which happened by chance in Turkwagam.

A civilian received bullet wound in the exchange of fire and was subsequently shifted to nearby hospital where is condition is said to be stable. He has been identified as Shoiab Ahmad Ganai, however official confirmation regarding his identity is awaited.

“It seems that the (militants) escaped but whole area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers.”(GNS)
