Masrat Zehra, who was in news the last month, for being booked under the Unlwaful Activities (prevention) Act has made Kashmir proud by winning an interntaional award provided by International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) for 2020.
Masrat has been awarded the Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award on Thursday, the award os provided in the honour of renowned German photojournalist Anja Niedringhaus, who was killed in 2014 in Afghanistan.
The $20,000 (more than 15 Lakhs) prize is awarded annually by the IWMF, which since 1990 has been fighting for press freedom and supporting courageous female journalists.
Masrat’s pictures provide a glimpse into the everyday lives of people living in Kashmir, which sees regular internet shutdowns.
