Massive congregations held across Kashmir on 2nd Friday of Ramadan, Clerics demand collective fight against rising crime

Mosques across the Kashmir valley wore a festive look as thousands of Kashmiri Muslims thronged them on the second Friday of Ramadhan- the holy month of fasting.

The largest gatherings in Srinagar were held at Dargah Hazratbal and Jamia Masjid of Srinagar where people from all over the Kashmir valley reached to offer Friday congregational prayers. The markets saw an increased business activity.

Here prayers were made for ever lasting peace in Kashmir, while in Jamia Masjid, the release of Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq, under house arrest since August 2019, was demanded.

 At Dargah Hazratbal, large number of devotees from across the Kashmir valley offered Friday congregational prayers.

In Anantnag, the second largest district of the valley, the largest gatherings were held at Jamia Masjid Anantnag, where Maulana Ghulam Rasool Hami addressed the gathering, at Khiram Sirhama and Kabamarg.

Moulana Hami condemning the recent spike in crimes called upon the Kashmiri society to unitedly fight the growing crimes. “There is a need for awareness in people. The society may even go to worse from here as everyone in the society is busy bringing others down. Nobody cares anymore about a community. It is all about personal scores and ego for everyone,” he said.

Jamia Masjid Anantnag

He said that Islamic education is the need of the hour “We need to teach our younger generation the Seerat of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and that is the solution to each of our problem,” Moulana Hami told the large gathering.

Small traders including small vendors, pickle traders, handmade product sellers, booksellers and vegetable sellers erected their stalls around Jamia Masjid of Anantnag and saw an increased buying activity.

Similarly in Banihal, thousands of devotees from all over the district visited the Jamia Masjid where the head preacher stressed upon the need to follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad. ﷺ

Chrar e Shareef in Budgam witnessed the largest gathering of the central Kashmir district. Chrar e Shareef is the resting place of Alamdar e Kashmir, Sheikh Noor u Din Noorani.

In Sopore, Jamia Masjid of Sopore witnessed massive rush of devotees while in Kulgam large number of devotees offered Friday congregational prayers at Chimmer Shareef.

Large gatherings were held in all the major mosques of the valley from up north to down south.
