Medical students oppose Admin’s decision of pooling of MBBS seats in Jammu Kashmir

The administration’s decision to combine MBBS and post-graduate seats in the all-India quota beginning with the current session has been contested by the medical students in Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu Kashmir admin recently ordered that 50% of PG course seats and 15% of MBBS seats will be shared in the All India Quota (AIQ), evoking sharp criticism from medical students.

The students said that by enrolling non-local medical students in undergraduate and graduate programmes the admin is risking the future of local medical students.

“Only Jammu Kashmir-based students should be qualified for postgraduate and undergraduate positions as we already have a less number of seats in the region,” a student said.

Students said that there will be rise in unemployment among doctors in Jammu Kashmir as contributing these medical seats in the All India Quota will create job problems. Student further added that this decision will negatively impact students too.
