Mehraj- ud-din Bangroo @ Asif, son of Sonaullah, resident of Narparastan Feteh Kadal Srinagar was killed in a gunfight with Government Forces early morning on Wednesday.
Mehraj who was with Muslim League is the district commander of LeT. Bangroo is from fatehKadal and is believed to be the brain behind the revival of insurgency in the city.
Mehraj is believed to be the brain behind the local youth picking up guns which has brought Srinagar on militancy map. Indian Security Forces claim that from last year small groups of foreign militants belonging to LeT have successfully been infiltrating the city due to Mehraj’s help.
The Foreign Militants also used to work under his command, he is also believed to be one of the attackers in Achabal case where five Policeman including an SHO were killed on July 16, 2017.
Bangroo who also appeared in the list of most wanted Militants prepared by Indian Government Forces in 2018 is believed to be be one of the main recruiters of militants in Jammu Kashmir and has allegedly killed many troopers as well.
One of the oldest surviving Militants, Bangroo is believed to have escaped many encounters and cordon sites in South as well as Central Kashmir.
