The Meteorological Department, Srinagar, has forecasted light snow and rain in the region from November 30 to December 1, signaling the end of the prolonged dry spell.
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Meteorological Department, confirmed that a western disturbance is expected to impact the region from the evening of November 30 until December 1, bringing light snowfall and rainfall.
“We are anticipating light snow in the higher reaches of the Kashmir Valley, including areas like Gulmarg, Sonmarg, and Pahalgam, while the plains will experience light rains,” Dr. Ahmad said. “This weather change will bring much-needed relief after an extended dry period.”
The department has also issued advisories for the public to take necessary precautions as the region braces for the expected inclement weather.
The Meteorological Centre reported that after fresh snowfall, Gulmarg recorded a minimum temperature of -2.4°C on Monday, down from -1.5°C the previous night.
This was 0.5°C below normal. Pahalgam’s temperature dropped to -2.3°C, while Srinagar saw a low of 4.0°C, slightly above the normal range for the season.
Qazigund recorded 5.0°C, Kupwara 1.2°C, and Kokernag 2.8°C. Overcast skies and cold conditions continued across Srinagar and nearby areas, with a slight drop in maximum temperatures, which were 0.2°C below normal on Sunday.
