Mian Altaf’s illness puts NC’s electoral plans in disarray

In a major development, Mian Altaf Ahmad, National Conference’s candidate for the Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary seat, is reportedly facing health issues, his family said on Saturday.

Mian Altaf, who has been a MLA many times and is well-known in politics from the Kangan area in Ganderbal district, has been dealing with poor health lately, because of which he can’t be very active during the election campaign.

His family said that doctors have advised him to observe several weeks of rest.

Mian Altaf also expressed regret, stating, “I have been detected with with an infection, and doctors have recommended over a month of rest for me. Consequently, I will not be able to engage in campaigning or leave my residence.”

Mian Altaf Ahmad, a key figure in the NC, not being available has made things uncertain for the party in the upcoming elections for the Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary seat.

A spokesperson of the National conference said that the party will decide on his involvement soon.

The National Conference had announced Mian Altaf Ahmad as their candidate for the Anantnag-Rajouri seat, which is slated for polling on May 7 during the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

In the electoral fray for the Anantnag-Rajouri seat, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fielded party president Mehbooba Mufti as its candidate, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is yet to announce its contender for the constituency.
