Militant killed in Budgam encounter had gone missing in February

Three militants have been killed in the encounter in the Waterhail area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Wednesday afternoon.

Officials said that All the three hiding militants have been killed. The bodies of the slain have been retrieved from the site. “Identification yet to be ascertained. Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter. A big success for us,” ADGP Kashmir said.

Earlier the Jammu Kashmir Police said that Lateef Ahmed Rather, who is a resident of the Chadoora area in central Kashmir’s Budgam district was trapped at the site of the encounter.

Pertinently, Lateef Ahmed Rather, a resident of Badipora in Budgam’s Chadoora had gone missing from his sister’s house in the Sadrabal area of Hazratbal Srinagar on 20 February this year.

As per the family members, Lateef went missing a few days after his release from the jail after 8 years of detention.

The Jammu Kashmir Police laid a siege at the Waterhail area of central Kashmir on Wednesday morning following an input about militant movement in the area. During the siege, an exchange of gunfire erupted between militants and Forces.

During the exchange of gunfire, three militants were killed, Police said.

The officials are yet to confirm their identity, however, sources told The Kashmiriyat that the three slain militants are locals and besides Lateef one of them is from Pulwama who had recently joined militant ranks.
