Militant killed in Kulgam encounter, operation continues, says Army

A militant was killed in an ongoing encounter that broke out on Friday evening in the Akhal forest area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, officials said.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, officials confirmed that the gunfight began on Friday evening after joint teams of the Army and police launched a cordon-and-search operation following specific inputs about militant movement in the area.

The Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, in a post on X, said, “Intermittent and intense firefight continued through the night. Alert troops responded with calibrated fire and tightened the noose while maintaining contact. A militant has been neutralised and the operation is ongoing.”
