On Monday, the Manipal Institute of Technology released a statement saying it has initiated an inquiry into an incident, which has gone viral on social media, wherein a Muslim student was subjected to an Islamophobic remark by a teacher during class.
“The concerned staff has been debarred from classes till the inquiry is over,” Manipal Institute of Technology said.
“We would like everyone to know that the institute does not condone this kind of behavior and this isolated incident will be dealt with in accordance with the laid down policy. The institute prides itself on one of the biggest diversity on campus and is committed to upholding our constitutional values of treating everyone alike, irrespective of their caste, religion, region, gender, etc,” read MIT’s statement.
It is pertinent to mention that in a viral video, a Muslim student can be seen calling out the teacher for his Islamophobic remark.
“Being a Muslim and facing this every day is not funny,” the student can be heard saying in the video.

When the faculty replied that the student was like his son, he said, “No, if a father says like that, it’s on him. It’s not funny.”
As per a report by Maktoob, the incident took place on November 25. The report says that the teacher had called the student ‘Kasab,’ who was convicted in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
“Then how can you call me like that in front of so many people? You are a professional, you are teaching,” the student is heard saying in the video. After which, the teacher is heard apologising. “A sorry doesn’t change how you think or how you portray yourself here,” the student says towards the end of the video.
