A mother and her daughter drowned in the Jhelum river in Marhama area of Bijbehara in South Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag) district on Tuesday afternoon.
The Station House officer of Bijbehara confirming the incident to The Kashmiriyat said the mother identified as Saleema Banoo, 40 and her daughter, Nighat aged 12 drowned in the river on Tuesday afternoon in the Jafarpora in Marhama area.
“As soon as we received the information, we rushed to the spot and started a massive rescue operation, which is still underway,” the Police official said.
He said that the dead body of the mother has been found, however the body of Nighat is still missing.
