Elections in Jammu Kashmir will be held from October, the new governor of the province, Satyapal Malik, announced. The urban body elections will be held from 1st to 5th October in four phases. The Panchayat elections will take place from 8th November to 8th December.
In the meeting of the State Administrative Committee headed by the Governor, it was decided to hold the urban body elections before Panchayat elections.
The State Administrative Committee has also announced to give additional salary of one month to the government employees working during the election.
Keeping in mind the Panchayat elections in the state, the Supreme Court has also stayed the hearing on the disputed Article 35A till January 19. Attorney General K.K. Venugopal and Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, the bench of Chief Justice Justice Deepak Mishra said that it is very sensitive to decide on the 35A at the time. Keeping in mind the coming-elect-Panchayat elections, it should be postponed till next date.
According to the state’s BJP head, Devendra Gupta, full security will be provided to the candidates during the elections.
