Muslim youth killed after abduction, family assaulted while trying to save him

A 21-year-old Muslim youth was brutally murdered in Chhoti Betawad village of Jamner taluk, Jalgaon district, after being kidnapped and attacked by a mob. The victim, identified as Suleman Rahim Khan, had recently completed his Class 12 and was preparing for a police recruitment process.

According to police and eyewitness accounts, Suleman was forcibly taken by a group of men, beaten with sticks, iron rods, and fists at multiple locations, and later dragged back to his locality where the assault continued. His severely injured body was dumped outside his home. He was rushed to hospital but was declared dead due to fatal injuries.

Suleman’s father, Rahim Khan, said the family was also targeted when they tried to intervene. “They attacked me, my wife, and my daughter while we were begging them to spare him. His body had wounds all over—there was no place left without scars,” he said.

Police officials stated that the violence began after a mob confronted Suleman at a café near the local police station while he was in the company of a 17-year-old girl from another community. On the same day, Suleman had submitted his application for police recruitment.

The incident has sparked outrage and fear in the area. Locals, activists, and relatives staged a protest at the Jamner police station on Monday evening, demanding strict punishment for the perpetrators. Jalgaon Superintendent of Police Maheshwari Reddy met the demonstrators and assured action.

An FIR has been registered under charges of murder, kidnapping, rioting, and unlawful assembly. Police confirmed that four men have been arrested, while five others have been identified and are being tracked.

The situation in Chhoti Betawad remains tense, with heightened security to prevent further unrest.
