My Son is Not Linked to Jaish e Muhammad, He was Studying there, Says Family of Kulgam Youth Arrested in Deoband

Shahnawaz Ahmed, a resident of Nunmai Kulgam who was arrested along with another Kashmiri youth Aqib Ahmed Malik in Deoband area of UP on Friday morning.

The UP Police stating that arms were recovered from the two ‘jaish e Muhammad’ affiliates has come as a real shock to the family and the family has been in a state of mourning since then.

Family members of Shahnawaz while speaking to The Kashmiriyat in Kulgam said that Shanwaz is innocent and had went to Dar ul Uloom Deoband to pursue Mufti course. “There is no case against him anywhere in Kashmir,” his mother told The Kashmiriyat, adding that he has been in Deoband since 2016.

Shahnawaz, as per the family, after completing his graduation, went to Deoband Dar ul Uloom in Uttar Pradesh and has been there for the past two years.

“He is very religious and wanted to pursue Mufti Course,” his mother told The Kashmiriyat.

His father who is a carpenter by profession said that the news of Shanawaz being arrested by UP Police has come as a shock to the family.

Shahnawaz is survived by a brother and two sisters.

“Shahnawaz should be released immediately, he is innocent and has no distant links whatsoever to Militancy,” his father told The Kashmiriyat while appealing the UP Police for investigating the matter thoroughly.

Earlier on Friday, Uttar Pradesh police chief OP Singh claimed that they arrested two persons from Kashmir Shahnawaz Ahmad and Aqib Ahmad Malik and recovered weapons from them.
