NGO organizes wedding of 31 poor couples during Mass Marriage ceremony in Srinagar

During the fourth phase, a local Non-Government Organization (NGO), ‘We the helping hands’ have organized the marriage ceremony of 31 couples in Srinagar on Thursday, achieving the target of solemnising the marriage of 150 couples this year.

Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Umar Wani, Chairman of the NGO, said that in the mass marriage today, at least 31 couples from different areas of Kashmir tied a nuptial knot.

“We had set a target of solemnising the marriage of 150 couples this year. Alhamdulillah, we have achieved the target in the fourth phase today,” he said, adding that they are expecting to increase the target to 200 in the next year.

“We have no sponsor, but the crowd funding is the only source for us to solemnize the marriages,” he said

He also appealed to people to make Nikkah ceremony simple to promote simple marriage in Kashmir, saying that it is unfortunate that the people don’t shy away from wrong and non-permissible habits, but have been showing reluctance to promote and accept the culture of simple Nikkah.

Shabir Ahmad Zaadu, one of the grooms from Magam, said that he was not in a condition to get married and one of his friends suggested getting in touch with the NGO for tying the knot.

Another person from Sumbal Nowgam in Bandipora, said that the customs created by the people are pushing the poor and downtrodden section of the society to the wall, but it is the time when the people should follow and promote simple Nikkah so that the poor could heave a sigh of relief—(KNO)
