NIA attaches property of Al Umar Chief Mushtaq Latrem in Srinagar

The National Investigating Agency (NIA) on Thursday morning sealed the house of Al Umar Mujahideen Chief Mushtaq Ahmed Zarger alias Latrem in the Nowhatta area of Srinagar.

Officials said the house of Zargar, the founder of Al-Umar-Mujahideen, was attached in Srinagar’s Nowhatta area Thursday morning.

Based in Pakistan, the Al Umar commander Mushtaq Zargar was one of the militants released as part of the 1999 Kandahar hijack prisoner swap.

In April 2022, the ministry of home affairs (MHA) designated Zargar, as a terrorist under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

Officials said an NIA team, assisted by local police and CRPF, attached the property of Zargar early this morning. A notice of attachment was posted on the house of Zargar.

Zargar, having the nickname ‘Latram’, was arrested on May 15, 1992 and later released in 1999, along with Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar and Sheikh Omar.

They were exchanged for passengers of hijacked Indian Airlines plane IC-814 in 1999.
