No Need For Delimitation in Jammu Kashmir: Omar Abdullah

Addressing the media  question of Delimitation posed by the media after the meeting on Thursday evening, Omar Abdullah said that he’s put forth in the meeting that there’s no need of Delimitation in Jammu Kashmir. And that why would the region undergo Delimitation now when all of the country is supposed to undergo it in the year 2026.

He said that when Assam’s Delimitation has been stopped and elections took place, then why does Jammu Kashmir need to be put through the Delimitation exercise. He also added that if the whole purpose behind the central government’s actions on August 5 was that of integrating the region with India then having a separate Delimitation exercise for Jammu Kashmir alone defeats the very purpose of August 5.

“If the idea was to bring us at par, then treat us at par. You cannot treat us at par in other respects, but where it shuts you, you treat us as a separate entity,” said Abdullah.

When asked if their party would participate in the Delimitation exercise, he said that Farooq Abdullah had answered the query back in Srinagar, itself. He had said that the decision of not sitting in the Delimitation has been reviewed by the party. If the Delimitation Commission invites for participation, they will give it a thought.

Omar Abdullah, while the interaction, also said that if efforts are made, then the mistrust which has grown among the masses in Jammu Kashmir can be overcome. And it might also help the PM in his commitment of reducing the “Dil ki Doori and the Dilli ki Doori.” He also added, “It cannot happen in one meeting, alone.”
