In continuation of the widespread check on digital spaces and freedom of expression, an order was issued by Commissioner-Secretary, General Administration Department (GAD), Manoj Dwivedi mentioning that “the employees in public departments will need to disclose their biographic details as well as social media accounts, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram”.
It has, however, been observed that these instructions are not being adhered to in some departments, subordinate offices, as a result of which many individuals with dubious character antecedents and conduct have been paid salaries and other allowances, without obtaining their mandatory CID verification.
The order also mentions that all the new appointees need verification by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the administration has directed the department heads and the new appointees to furnish these details via a government e-mail “to avoid violation of cybersecurity instructions of the government.
However, considering the urgency of the matter “ the officers can send in their details using a non-government email account” the government said.
