No Teachers to Teach Six Subjects in Degree College of Dooru

Due to lack of staff and lack of infrastructure at Anantnag/Government Degree College, Dooru, Anantnag, the educational future of students studying in these schools has been put under question.

The college has been established in 2005 under the congress and people’s Democratic Party coalition rule. As per the official data, 1300 boys and girls are currently pursuing their studies at this college.

Six teachers were transferred two months back but the new teachers have not been deployed in their place as of yet. There are no teachers in college to teach chemistry, biochemistry, English, economics subjects, besides there are no lecturers in the college for the past year to teach physics and psychology subjects.

The college has one teacher to teach political science which is inadequate for a large number of students.

Khurshid Ahmed, a student studying at the college, said that the Construction of the science block for the college has been approved two years ago and an allocation of Rs 8.85 crore has been made but the construction work is still on hold due to some issues between the contractor and the public works department. The department has so far dis-issued tenders five times for the construction of the block and the matter is currently pending in court.

A contractor in the tender race said that the department first assigned me the construction work of the building while I was declared disabled for the second time, but the same department has declared it eligible for larger projects.

The work was allotted in favour of the court, his papers were not found in the circle office under the code which led to the cancellation of the tender, but the contractor has now taken the matter to the court and he is expected to come to a decision from the court soon.

The IGNOU Study Centre has introduced in the college 3 years ago, but for unknown reasons, the centre has also been closed.

Javed Ahmed, president of Shahabad’s Citizenship forum, says that students from Dooru, Verinag, kaparan and Banihal come to study to this college but the students and the college staff are inconvenienced due to the lack of reasonable facilities.

He appealed to the LT. Governor Sinha to look into the matter and resolve it at sooner.
