Not being allowed to function in the town: Sopore sumo drivers

Scores of Sumo drivers from Sopore on Monday reached ADC’s office alleging that they were being asked to vacate from a Sumo stand in the north Kashmir town.

One of the sumo drivers, Imran Ahmad said they had been driving from sumo stand no. 2 for the past 20 years. “Despite having all the legal documents they are not allowed to drive by the various administrative authorities for reasons unknown to us,” he alleged.

He said, “they are demanding 3-4 lakh rupees from us to allow us to drive.”

The move has severely impacted our livelihood, he said.

Further, talking to The Kashmiriyat Imran Ahmad said that if their demands were not heard, they will launch a sit-in protest at Ghanta Ghar Sopore with their families after the 15th of August.
