Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said that only 400 to 500 people will be impacted by new land laws while the shopkeepers and anyone from the financially weaker sections won’t be impacted.
Talking to media persons in Jammu, LG Sinha said that the new land laws are at par with the national level but anybody can’t be allowed to hold on to a property worth hundreds of crores by paying just five rupees as rent.
“Some people are trying to spread misinformation on this. The Supreme Court guidelines have been taken into consideration while making new land laws here,” Sinha said.
“The earlier land laws were regressive. Anybody who had to set up an orchard or do away with one needed permission. We have changed that,” LG said.
The new land laws, notified last week, had come under criticism by mainstream parties across the board in Kashmir valley.
