Nursing students urge Kashmir University to postpone exams due to incomplete syllabus

Students of the Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing 1st Year program (Session 2024–2025) under the University of Kashmir have raised a serious academic concern, urging the authorities to intervene and postpone their upcoming annual examinations, currently scheduled for July 2025.

The students, in a written appeal, have highlighted that the syllabus for the current academic session remains significantly incomplete. With nine major subjects forming the core of their curriculum, they claim that limited classroom instruction and delays in syllabus coverage have left them academically unprepared and mentally stressed.

“We are under severe academic pressure. The syllabus is incomplete, and we haven’t had enough time for proper learning or revision,” the students stated in their representation.

The students emphasized that despite sincere efforts from both faculty and students, the compressed academic calendar has made it nearly impossible to keep up with the demanding curriculum.

The students have appealed for a one-month deferment of the exams — from July to August 2025 — to allow sufficient time for syllabus completion and meaningful preparation.

In their letter, they approached The Kashmiriyat to help bring their plea to the attention of the Hon’ble Education Minister, expressing hope that the issue would be raised through proper official channels.

This request comes at a time when academic stress and mental health are increasingly being acknowledged as critical issues in higher education. The students argue that a short postponement would not only ensure fairness but also uphold the academic integrity of the nursing program.

With the future of hundreds of aspiring healthcare professionals at stake, students now await a response from university authorities and the education ministry, hoping their voices will be heard before the examination dates are finalized.
