Omar Abdullah, National Conference (NC) Vice President, on Wednesday presided over the party’s South Zone functionaries meeting at party head quarters in, Srinagar.
Ali Muhammad Sagar – Party General Secretary, Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal – Additional General Secretary, Nasir Aslam Wani – Provincial President, Sakina Itoo and G.A Shah – State Secretaries, Dr Bashir Ahmed Veeri – Zonal President of South Kashmir, Hasnain Masoodi MP and Abdul Majeed Larmi – District Presidents, Showkat Hussain, Altaf Kaloo, GH Mohiudin Mir and Imran Nabi Dar – Spokesperson of NC were present on the occasion.
As per the statement issued to The Kashmiriyat, Party Treasurer – Shammi Oberoi, Vice Provincial President – Mohammad Syed Akhoon, Provincial Secretary – Showkat Mir, YNC Provincial President – Salman Ali Sagar, Women’s Wing Provincial President – Er. Sabiya Qadri were also present in the meeting.
On the occasion, the participants unanimously reiterated their support to the underway efforts of the Party President Dr. Farooq Abdullah for the restoration of the constitutional position of Jammu Kashmir, which was unconstitutionally and unilaterally rescinded on the 5th of August last year.
They also raised the issue of prolonged incarceration of many mainstream political leaders and other grass root level workers. They also raised concerns for those in detention. As, there has been no respite since last year.
They discussed success and failures of the previous clamp down and subsequent COVID-19 induced lockdown. Speaking on the occasion, the functionaries also highlighted the widespread administrative inertia, development deficit and unaccountability on ground. The meeting continued for a span of five hours and saw active participation of each and every individual present.
Syed Tauqeer Ahmed, Sheikh Muhammad Rafi, Muhammad Kahlil Bandh, Ghulam Nabi Bhat Adigami, Muhammad Abbas Dar, Abdul Rahman Tantray, Safdar khan, Pir Muhammad Hussain, Shabir Kullay block presidents of the party were also present in the meeting.
Party Vice President asked the party members to remain in touch with people and highlight issues of public importance in their respective constituencies in order to work towards restoring the article and return of Jammu Kashmir’s constitutional rights.
