A group of residents living in a housing complex in Maharashtra’s Thane district expressed their disapproval of a man who intended to bring a goat to his residence in preparation for Eid ul Adha.
A few members of the housing colony and some members of a Hindu organisation held a protest against the couple for bringing livestock into the colony, ANI reported.
On Tuesday evening, the police responded to the incident at the housing society situated in the Bhayander area and arrived at the scene.
They held discussions with the residents and pacified them, a station house officer (SHO) at Mira Road police station told PTI.
The incident was captured on video and quickly gained attention on various social media platforms. The viral video depicted individuals shouting and obstructing the man from transporting the goat to his residence.
According to a police official, the man had a practice of informing the police in advance every year about his intention to bring a goat to his house before Eid ul Adha. This was because he didn’t have an alternative location to accommodate the animal.
“The man takes the goat away the next day and the animal is not slaughtered at his residence,” the official said.
The man has been instructed to remove the animal from his residence in the presence of the police, as per his statement.
The couple Mohsin Khan and Yasmin Khan, who had brought the goat into the society said, “If bringing the goats inside the housing colony was against the law, then they should have filed a police complaint against us. We were assaulted, molested and mentally harassed by the mob that gathered to protest against us.”
A case has been registered against 11 for bringing goats inside a private housing colony, according to ANI.
