Indian Government as well the state every now and then spends huge sums of money on the advertisements and the news of Swacch Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Campaign), however on the ground, it is visibly not looking like a dream achievable.
The dwellers of the chankhan area of sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district of North Kashmir on Sunday raised serious concerns over the blockade of stream with huge quantities of garbage.
The stream flows through the Chankhan area has left the locals of the area agitated.
Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, The residents said that the polluted water in a pava stream has been inducing stinking smell and has been losing its glory with the passage of time.
An old an from the area recalled that, once the pava stream was a major attraction but now one only find sewage in it.
“Enough polluted water and heaps of garbage flow into it, which is emitting foul smell. The water is stagnant from last Ten years,”Ghulam Muhammad Mir president Auqaf Committee Chankhan sopore told The Kashmiriyat.
He added that the residents have been keeping the doors and windows shut just to avoid the foul smell.
The residents said, “Despite approaching the concerned officials in the Irrigation, Municipal council and district administration, they have failed to take any concrete steps to clean the stream.”
The Kashmiriyat raised the issue with the Executive officer Municipal council sopore Muteen Ahmad who said that he recently visited the area.
“The stream will be cleared soon and the Municipal Council Sopore will send JCB’s to clean the stream.”
