An army soldier was killed in a brief gunfight at Kralgund area of Handwara in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday morning.
A police Official told The Kashmiriyat that 32 RR of Indian Army launched a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) at Kachlu village during wee hours of Friday.
As soon as the troops intensified the searches, the hiding militants opened fire triggering off a brief gunfight, he told adding that an army soldier suffered critical bullet wounds and was shifted to nearby military hospital for treatment.
“The Soldier later succumbed to his Injuries and identified him as Rifleman Rambabu Sahi,” he told The Kashmiriyat.
Meanwhile locals told The Kashmiriyat that the searches were ongoing in the area to trace out the hiding militants.
