Over 13 lakh students in Jammu Kashmir government schools receive free textbooks and uniforms

In Jammu Kashmir, more than 13 lakh students enrolled in government schools are being provided with free textbooks and uniforms under the Right to Education Act.

An official said that under the Act, at least eight lakh students from classes 1 to 8 are receiving free uniforms. The cost of the uniform is Rs 600 per child.

The official further said that at least 5.50 lakh students from classes 3 to 5 are being provided with free textbooks.

Regarding quality education and Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), the official said that 15,550 pre-primary sections have been started in schools across the Union Territory, including PM SHRI Schools.

A total of 13,804 AAYA workers and helpers have been engaged for these pre-primary sections. The official added that 46 model kindergartens have been constructed out of the proposed 188.

Speaking on skill education, the official said that vocational education has been implemented in 1,350 schools, including PM SHRI Schools. It will be introduced in 554 more schools.

The official also said that 2,146 vocational trainers have been engaged, and 1,34,000 students from classes 9 to 12 are enrolled in 15 trades.

So far, 1,335 vocational labs have been established, and 1,915 more will be installed in the coming months. (KNO)
