Over 27 quintals of rotten meat and fish recovered in Jammu

Authorities have seized and destroyed more than 6,200 kg of unsafe meat in separate crackdowns across Jammu Kashmir.

In Jammu, a joint team of the Legal Metrology Department and the Food Safety Department confiscated over 2,700 kg of expired frozen fish and chicken during raids on meat shops.

Three shopkeepers now face legal action for violating packaging and storage rules. Deputy Controller Manoj Prabhakar said the festival-season drive focused on expiry dates, storage norms, and proper labelling, as per officials.

The spoiled goods were disposed of at Kotbhalwal under Jammu Municipal Corporation supervision.

In Kashmir, officials recently destroyed more than 3,500 kg of rotten and adulterated meat recovered from various locations, triggering widespread public concern over food safety.

Authorities have intensified inspections across the region, warning traders of strict action for endangering public health.
