Over hundred kanal of ‘state land’ including 15 kanal belonging to former minister retrieved in Shopian, say officials

Administration on Saturday said it retrieved about 15 kanal of land illegally occupied by former Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu during the ongoing eviction drive in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

“Among the 100s of kanals of illegally occupied land freed today, the Shopian administration retrieved 15 Kanals of illegally occupied high-value orchard land from former Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu (15 Kanals). Govt’s zero-tolerance policy ensures the land is used for public benefit,” he said.

On Friday, More than 343 kanals of State/ Kahcharai land was today retrieved from encroachers during anti-encroachment drives held across the district, officials said.

The land retrieved from illegal encroachment includes 25 kanals, 12 marlas at village Zainapora of Tehsil Zainapora, 55 Kanal, 23 Marlas at village Nagisharan in Tehsil Hermain, 43 Kanals, 3 marlas in village Berthipora Tehsil Keller, 85 Kanals in village Chittragam Tehsil Chittragam, 28 Kanals in village Vedapora Tehsil Keegam, 12 Marlas in village Hergam Tehsil Shopian and 105 Kanals, 5 marlas in village Mahandpora Tehsil Barbugh of the district.

During these anti-encroachment drives, commercial structures and land illegally occupied by influential persons including Ex. Minister was also demolished and land reclaimed.

The drives were conducted under the supervision of Tehsildars of respective Tehsils.

These drives shall continue till the entire encroached land is retrieved from the encroachers, an official informed. With Inputs from KNO
